Often described as one of the greatest voices in musical theatre, Colm Wilkinson created the role of Jean Val jean in the original London and Broadway productions of Les Miserables. For his performances, Colm earned a Laurence Oliver Award nomination for Best Actor as well as Tony and Drama Desk Nominations, while winning the Helen Hayes Award, the Outer Critics' Circle Award, and a Theatre World Award. Colm returned to the role of Val jean for one night only in October of 1995, starring in the now legendary London 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

A video of the concert (Columbia / Tristar Home Video) has since been seen by millions throughout the world. Colm created the role of 'The Phantom' in Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of The Opera at the composer's annual music festival at Sydmonton. Colm went on to star in the Toronto production at the Pantages Theatre from the show's premiere in September 1989 until May 1994, giving 1653 performances and earning nightly standing ovations from more than 3.5 million theatre-goers.

For his portrayal Colm received the Dora Mavor Moore Award in 1989-90 for Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Revue or Musical. Colm also created the role of 'Che' on the original concept recording of Evita (MCA) and starred as Judas in the Dublin production of Jesus Christ Superstar, a role he later performed for two and a half years in London’s West Ed and on the British National Tour. Other Dublin and London theatre credit include Rock Nativity, Adam and Eve, Fire Angel and Voices.

An accomplished recording artist, Colm has numerous albums to his credit. He performs on the London, Broadway (Geffin) and Royal Albert Hall (First Night/Relativity) cast albums. of Les Miserables and can be heard as 'The Phantom' on the original Canadian cast recording of (First Night/Relativity), The Phantom Of The Opera (Polygram), as well as the original concept album for the musical Jekyll And Hyde (RCA Victor).

Colm's solo recordings include Stage Heroes (BMG/RCA), a collection of theatre songs from classic Broadway musicals. As concert performer, Colm performed throughout North America in Andrew Lloyd Webber -- Music of The Night. He has appeared around the world in his concerts One Man Show and Stage Heroes in Concert. Colm also starred in a television concert special for PBS Colm Wilkinson Sings (MPI Media Productions International) featuring his son Aaron and Patti Lu Pone, in which he sang songs from many Broadway Musicals, including Les Miserables.




Since late 2003 Colm has been busy performing in various concerts and other charity events around the world. Colm not only performs songs from his latest recording; Some of my Best Friends are Songs but rock n' roll favorites as well as hits from Broadway and other musical genres. Beginning October 6 & 7, 2007 in Halifax Nova Scotia, Colm will launch his first comprehensive national tour of Canada titled "Colm Wilkinson: Broadway and Beyond".

In 2009 Colm began work on the hit Showtime television series, The Tudors where he was featured in a reoccurring role of Lord Darcy who was eventually convicted of high treason during the reign of Henry the V III. Later that year he embarked on a tour of his native Ireland touring such cities as Limerick, Dublin, Cork, and Wexford.

Following the success of “Some of my Best Friends are Songs” and subsequent concert tour titled Broadway and Beyond, Colm released a new recording entitled, Broadway and beyond: the Concert Songs in 2010. Later that year, Colm participated in the 25th Anniversary performance of Les Miserable held at London’s O2 arena in concert alongside other original as well as current cast members of the famed hit musical.

In 2011, Colm participated in the 25th Anniversary gala performance of The Phantom of the Opera at London’s Royal Albert Hall in a concert that featured multiple Phantoms. Colm performed the role of the Bishop of Digne in the movie version of Les Miserable released in theatres worldwide on Christmas day in 2012. Directed by Tom Hooper starring Hugh Jackman as Val jean, Russell Crowe as Javert , and Anne Hathaway as Fantine; Les Miserables was nominated for 8 academy awards including best picture.
